Road trips are a great form of travel, as they allow you to enjoy a vacation without the stress that flying can bring about. Although road trips can be extremely fun, some people shy away from them simply because they don’t know how to plan them. For example, what are you supposed to pack on a road trip? Thankfully, there are some essential items that you can pack for all road trips, items that can help you in a variety of ways. Whether you’re driving to Canada to look at Whistler homes for sale or simply road tripping to the beach, these items will make your trip that much more enjoyable. Here are my road trip essentials that you absolutely need to bring along.
Entertainment
Road trips are a fun and exciting time for everyone involved, but they can also tend to drag on. Let’s face it, no matter how exciting your destination is, there’s no possible way that you can prevent yourself from becoming bored when stuck in a car for more than a dozen hours. As a result, you’ll want to bring some forms of entertainment in order to keep everyone occupied during the trip. Some examples of entertainment could be cards, electronics, or even just a simple playlist to sing along to. These forms of entertainment can make the ride seem so much less monotonous and can add so much more enjoyment to your road trip.
Snacks and Drinks
While boredom is an important thing to combat on your road trip, it certainly isn’t the only thing you’ll need to worry about. Spending so much time in a car is bound to get you hungry and thirsty, something that could be a major problem. You don’t want to have to stop at a restaurant every time this problem comes up, as that will only slow the trip down more and could cost you a lot of money. Due to this, you should pack plenty of snacks and drinks for the trip. Doing so can allow you to eat and drink on the go without having to stop or spend money at restaurants. In addition, having food and water in the car is also extremely important in case an emergency situation ever arises and you’re stranded.
Clothes
Like getting ready for any vacation, it’s extremely important that you pack plenty of clothes for your road trip. The key difference between road trips and normal vacations is that road trips are usually more spontaneous and unplanned, meaning you likely don’t know exactly what kind of clothes to pack. Will you stop by a location where you can swim and need swimsuits? Will you need hiking clothes if you drive past a cool hiking trail? In addition, you don’t have things like weight limits or bag restrictions when driving your own car, meaning you can pack more. The only thing that you’re restricted by is the size of your car, something you should be able to plan around easily. The general rule of thumb when packing clothes for a road trip is that if you think you’ll need it and it’ll fit, then you should pack it.
Emergency Supplies
One of the scariest situations you can be in while on a road trip is having some type of emergency happen that strands you. While packing food and water can help you survive a situation like this, it isn’t the only thing you’ll need to pack in case of an emergency. You’ll want things that can help you fix your vehicle, such as a spare tire or jumper cables. You’ll also want to bring emergency supplies like flashlights, a first aid kit, and medicine. Although emergency situations are unlikely to occur, they still can happen, and being prepared could prevent serious injury or even save a life in drastic scenarios.
