Three Travel Tips for Planning a Romantic Getaway

There’s nothing like traveling if you want to keep the spark alive. Experiencing new places, meeting new people, and immersing yourself in new cultures are all wonderful ways to reconnect with your spouse, but only if you’re careful about planning your next trip.

First, you’ll want to make sure you have travel insurance for couples. That way you can both relax and have a truly good time knowing that you’re protected in case the unexpected happens.

That’s an important tip, but it’s not necessarily a very romantic one. That’s where these next three tips come in. They’ll help you plan the most romantic getaway ever.

Skip the Most Popular Destinations

Planning a jaunt to popular destinations all around the world is fairly easy. For example, everyone knows about Rome and there are plenty of flights that will take you there. However, busy places don’t always offer the best environment for a romantic getaway.

If you really want to reconnect with a loved one, choose somewhere that’s a bit off the beaten path. That means being careful if you’re traveling around spring break, and avoiding tourist traps, like Disney World.

Don’t think you have to go far to have a truly romantic vacation either. There are likely plenty of wonderful destinations within driving distance of where you live, which makes planning a romantic getaway even easier.

Choose Your Accommodations Carefully

Once you know where you’re heading, be smart about your accommodations. It may be easier to book a room at the Holiday Inn, but it isn’t likely to be very romantic.

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a hotel. Here are a few you’ll want to think about if you want to set the right mood:

  • Bed and breakfasts offer a cozier, more intimate setting for romantic getaways
  • Choose romantic amenities, like fireplaces and jacuzzi tubs, over TVs and swimming pools
  • Choose a location in the heart of your destination so you aren’t spending all your time driving in the car

Pack a Surprise

If you choose the right hotel, you may be able to choose a special package that includes rose petals and candles to make your stay romantic, but it’s even better if you take things into your own hands by packing a surprise in your suitcase.

Before you leave, sneak something into your loved one’s suitcase. It could be something as simple as a game you can play while you’re on vacation, or it could be something like a new piece of lingerie, body lotion, or chocolates.

Don’t tell them what you’ve packed. That way, when they go to open their suitcase, there’s a special surprise inside that they don’t remember packing!

Few things can reinvigorate a relationship like a romantic getaway, but you do have to do a little homework to make sure your trip is actually romantic. If you avoid the crowds, choose your accommodations carefully, and pack a surprise, you’re sure to plan a romantic trip that you both will never forget.
